The City of Cambridge, in collaboration with the Cambridge Redevelopment Authority and the Foundry Consortium, will hold a ribbon-cutting for the Foundry, a new community hub for creativity in a 132-year old former industrial space located at the intersection of the East Cambridge neighborhood and the Kendall Square Innovation District at 101 Rogers St., at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 22.

Keynotes will be delivered by city officials and community partners who played a role in the Foundry’s evolution. The Foundry will be fully open to the public in the fall.

From the Blake and Knowles Steam Pump Company, to a mid-century taxi barn and 1980s office space, the brick and timber-frame building at 101 Rogers Street had many uses over its history. The Foundry now will provide the Cambridge community with space and programs for the visual and performing arts, entrepreneurship, technology, and workforce education.

Architecture firm CambridgeSeven helmed the redesign which includes a new sculptural entry leading visitors into an interior atrium, where new structural steel and a metal-clad addition create a synergy between the heavy timber roof structure and historic masonry shell.
